Cheyanne Hudnall Diversity in Technology
Chung-Chin Kao
Chung-Chin Kao is a Senior Research Program Manager at Royal Academy of Engineering. Kao has been leading the development of the 'built environment' for the past 10 years. He is also a trustee for the board and committees of the Royal Academy. What inspired Kao was his parents, he stated that they always pushed him to be the best and follow his heart. The underrepresentation in this field for Asian Americans is a little different than any other ethnicity, instead it's a stereotype that Kao had to overcome. Something that can be done to combat racial biases around technology is to have more representation surrounding it, showing that everyone can be smart and introduced to this major would calm down the stereotypes on Asian Americans.
Katherine G. Johnson
Katherine G. Johnson was an African American mathematician who contributed valuable studies and information to the aeronautics and space program for NASA. Katherine had to overcome the countless constraints that were thrown at her due to being a woman and a person of color. Katherine was heavily influenced to contribute to this career because of her high school math teacher to join the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. This Sorority remained constant in her life for more than 80 years. Underrepresentation in the technology field resulted in her ultimate success story but only because of her perseverance and strong-willed personality. It shouldn't have been as hard as it was for Katherine to succeed and get a fair shot at her internship for NASA, she was a brilliant woman who should've gotten a lot more opportunities presented to her than she actually did.
